September 9th - Sunday - 1-2:30 PM - SCOTTSDALE JAM

Picture
Jam will be held at

Rainbow Power Center
12201 N. 64th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85254

Lots of off-street parking. There will not be a sign you can see from the street - it is a large building right on the NE Corner of 64th Street and Cactus in Scottsdale.

The Scottsdale Nia Jam on Sept 9 at 1-2:30 will be a BENEFIT for the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation (lonestarparalysis.org).  As you may know, Holly Curtis's son had a serious accident last year and fractured his C6 vertebra, initially resulting full paralysis.  Holly Curtis Nastasi is one of the first Nia trainers who has trained many of the Nia Belt grads in the SouthWest.  Her son Daniel has recovered some movement, with intensive work and therapy and assistance from the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation.  He has a long and costly recovery road and a lot of work ahead of him but he is up for it.

For a VIDEO view of Daniel's progress, see  nianow.com/story/2012/07/paying-it-forward

JOIN US - Debbie Rosas, Nia co-founder, has urged all Nia teachers to hold a 75 minute Jam to benefit Lone Star Paralysis Foundation in August or September.  I hope you will join Phoenix Area Nia Teachers at the Jam to have fun and support this good cause.  Please encourage your friends to attend.  There is a suggested tax-deductible contribution of $20, but donations in any amount will be appreciated.

“As Nia practitioners, we honor the power of movement and feel the devastation that must come when movement is not possible,” says Debbie Rosas, Nia founder and co-creator. “We first learned about the work of LSPF when Nia’s Trainer of the Year, Holly Nastasi, told us of her son’s tragic accident in May of 2011. Daniel, Holly’s son, is currently quadraplegic and making great headway towards a full recovery with the help of LSPF.”

According to Mike Haynes, director of LSPF, the foundation supports research on a national level in the area of spinal cord injury recovery. In addition, it sponsors the Seton Brain and Spine Center, a rehab and recovery center for those with spinal cord injuries in Austin, Texas. Scores of spinal cord injury survivors recover their mobility at the center, through cutting-edge physical and occupational therapy and regular conditioning with specialized equipment. “A cure is close at hand, and the knowledge gained in its pursuit benefits all of us,” Haynes said.

Beat the Heat in FLAGSTAFF - Aug. 24-26

Razel says - I am offering a “shamanic” menopause workshop in Flagstaff on August 24-26th.  This is for any woman in any stage of menopause…    Essentially, the event is a gorgeous weekend of camaraderie, dispelling old myths about this phase of our femininity, interactive activities (including Nia and a mountain hike, +++), brilliant teachings from the wisdom of the grandmothers, and ceremonial experiences to create a new approach of empowerment and beauty...

The location is nestled in the tall pines, around a small pond, with local animals coming in and out of the spot.  When I visited the site, there were 4 female elk, lounging on the adjacent rise, just watching us walk through the property…  Wanna get out of the heat for a weekend???

We gather Friday night at 7pm and end Sunday night around 6pm ...  The cost from July 29 - Aug. 11 is $225.

Kathy Milazzo (a woman of many talents and a dear friend of mine) is sponsoring this event and she has all the skinny on the logistics, payment, lodging, etc.,  If you want more info about these things, contact her at 928-607-2999.  If you would like to talk more about the content of the workshop, give me a holler.  It would be fantastic to share your beautiful energy for this weekend."
